Safeguarding

Safeguarding

At Bedonwell Infant and Nursery and Bedonwell Junior Schools we are committed to promoting the welfare of all children and young people and ensuring they are safeguarded. School plays an essential role in protecting children from harm. They have regular contact with children and young people so are in a strong position to identify signs of abuse and neglect.

We safeguard children by:

  • Creating safe environments for children and young people through robust safeguarding practices
  • Ensuring that adults who work in the school, including volunteers, don't pose a risk to children
  • Making sure staff are trained, know how to respond to concerns and keep up to date with policy and practice
  • Teaching children and young people about staying safe
  • Maintaining an environment where children feel confident to approach any member of staff if they have a worry or problem

The Designated Safeguarding Leads for Bedonwell Infant and Nursery and Bedonwell Junior School are

Local Information and Support

At Bedonwell, we believe in having a whole-school approach to be able to support parents and carers effectively. We engage widely with members of the local school community and are committed in sharing these links with you.

We understand the importance of building links between home and school, empowering parents to voice their ideas and opinions, and communicating effectively with you to promote your child's learning and educational experience.

Parent / carer engagement is important because working together has been shown to have a promising impact on the wellbeing, attendance, behaviour, sense of school belonging, intellectual development and attainment of children across a range of social and economic backgrounds.

We aim to strengthen parent / carers' abilities to build resilience in your children and in yourselves - reducing risks affecting wellbeing and learning. We run programmes for parents / carers alongside external partners which aim to strengthen children's mental health or de-escalate common problems.

As well as thinking about the children in your care, it is important to take care of you own mental health and wellbeing. This will help you support yourself and those you care about. Children react, in part, to what they see from the adults around them. When parents and carers deal with a situation calmly and confidently, they can provide the best support for children and young people.

Operation Encompass

The school has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that will run jointly between schools and the Metropolitan Police.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools by police prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident involving police intervention.

Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, known as a Designated  Safeguarding Lead (DSL), is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, whilst ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.
